QOD Max Brazilian Keratin Treatment FAQ

I get the same questions frequently on my QOD Brazilian Keratin Treatment Youtube Video. If you haven't seen it, check it out.

Updates and answers to FAQ

  • Why are you natural now? Did your hair mess up because of this treatment?
I am natural now and was transitioning in the video. I never planned on relaxing after the treatment.
I had wonderful results and I do plan on doing the treatment again on my natural hair in the next 6 months or so for a length check.
  • Is this good for natural or relaxed hair?
Both. This treatment is for those who want less frizz, more strength, more moisture retention, and more manageability. It works the best on porous hair (chemical or color treated) as the keratin has places to fill in in the hair. On natural hair, one can expect less shrinkage, and increased manageability.
  • What was that thing you used when flat ironing?
The comb I used to aid in flat ironing in the video was a straightening comb that I purchased at Sally Beauty Supply.
  • How much formaldehyde is in the treatment?
I do not remember the formaldehyde content of the product. Yes, I can look it up, but so can you. This is a product that deserves-no,commands your own individual research. Do not rely on me or anyone else to give you information regarding chemical products. Get it from the horse's mouth. http://www.qodusa.com/ They have far more information on formaldehyde use and effects that I could ever understand or provide.

  • How long did the treatment last for you?
The treatment lasts between 3-5 months under normal circumstances. This depends on what products you use to maintain your hair and what kind of condition your hair is in initially.

  • What products did you use to maintain the treatment?
I used sulfate-free and sodium-free products. Check your ingredients on your products. I didn't use a product if the ingredients weren't listed.

  • What are the benefits of this treatment?
Again, this depends on your hair. Generally, a dramatic reduction in frizz, increase combability, stronger, heavier, silkier, shinier, increased moisture retention, and easier to manage hair were my results. I also didn't need to use as much product to get the desired effects. In other words = BUTTER HAIR. Results vary.

  • Do I have to use 450 degree flat iron?
Per the directions, this is the temperature of iron needed to effectively seal in the treatment. Use a lower temperature at your own risk of having less than stellar results. I do understand the concern as this is an incredible amount of heat. But use your own judgment. My hair took it like a champ and I had no issues with dryness, split ends, splits, or breakage. Use your best judgement.

  • Do you have to blow dry twice?
Per the directions, yes you need to blow dry twice. After the shampoo, and after applying the treatment as shown in the video. This treatment requires heat to bond to your hair and straight hair to keep the hair stick straight.
  • Do I have to wait 4 days to wash?
Per the directions, yes you do. Getting your hair wet before the treatment has time to cure with your hair reduces its effectiveness. Blow drying and running a low temperature iron back over it will take care of that. No need to go high heat for a touch up.

  • I'm nervous about the treatment, what should I do?
If you're that nervous, do more research to determine if it's for you. If you're nervous to apply it, visit a professional stylist. My first treatment was done by a stylist at Ulta and came out wonderfully. See those posts here.

  • How much does the treatment cost?
I bought mine on ebay from KERATINTODAY. I bought the liter size which can yield at least 6 treatments. I also sell the treatment in liter sizes on ebay for $130 which is a STEAL. I bought mine from them as a distributor. They are completely new and unopened. Buy it here.

  • I have fine, thin hair. Is this treatment for me?
I believe this treatment is more for those with thick, curly, or coarse hair. Keep in mind that the weight of the product sealed in your hair will give it that heavy "swang". Your hair will be stick straight the first four days, but it will still have alot of movement. Over time, your hair will regain body and fullness that fine haired people desire. After the first four days, you can wash it and style it however you want to.

  • When should I trim?
It's best to trim after the treatment. Your hair will be stick straight and in optimal condition for a precise cut. But you can do it whenever you'd like. I had a haircut about two weeks or so prior to my treatment and my hair looked great.

Hello i vied the video and i am considering the QOD treatment I find it expensive though. Do you sell the QOD Gold treatment? Also my hair is not long and strong enough to wear out so i usually wear a sew/glue in weave so I am not messing with my hair and I see more growth by weaving my hair up. Now another question is after using the treatment will braiding and weaving my hair up be a bad mistake? Will my hair be more prone to damage and fall out? Please let me know i am all for wearing my real hair but only when its thick and healthy in appearance and length until then i love my vixen weaves.

Hello I left the questions about the QOD Gold and if I can still put in my braided weaves prior to this question. I'm Nikki by the way. Sorry If I am repeating questions because I didn't get a chance to read all up here. So do you think its good to take a class on applying the treatment? It really looks simple. If it doesn't come out good the 1st try would I damage my hair if did a repeat in another 4 days? How do i get the best results? The site claims that i must use all the products with the treatment they sell is that true? i want my hair to look like Indian Remy very silky and shiny without having to use oil sheen sprays. What should I do?

Hello Nikki again... more question. Is that a Croc inferred flat iron you use to straighten your hair? Have you tried the flat iron sold on the QOD site?

@Nikki - Hello! I do not sell the treatment anymore.

I can't tell you what to do with your hair, but I wouldn't put time or money into a bkt treatment, just to put it under a sew in weave. If you need a strengthening treatment, I would just go with an inexpensive reconstructor.

Classes are probably only available to stylists. I didn't take one to do it, I just watched my stylist do it.

You should not repeat the process after 4 days. You simply wash your hair as normal after 4 days. You get the best results by following the directions for the product you get. Using the recommended products tend to yeild the best results, but they aren't mandatory.

Yes, that was a Croc 2 Infrared flat iron. I have not tried the QOD iron.

Hey Hun, where did u buy that brush that you were flat ironing your hair with? I never thought such a brush existed, I think it would help with my hair. Thanks

Great video

Hi! I answered that question in this post! It's actually a comb, purchased at Sally Beauty. Other brands make them as well.

Hello, I just went to a hairdresser & got a keratin treatment. I really love how my hair came out. I bought the sulfate free shampoo & conditioner that she had. Now I paid $150 for the treatment, which was too bad, but I don't want to pay that every time, & she was a little rough with me. I paid attention to what she did, and it did not seem too difficult. I watched your video, & it was similar to what she did.

How often do it need to wash my hair after the treatment? Do I blow dry & flat iron each time I wash my hair with the sulfate free shampoo & conditioner? What is the name of your flat iron that you use? Do you use any oils or creams on hair to maintain it?

Thanks for checking out the video. I think with care you can do it at home.

1. You wash on your normal washing schedule. Just be mindful, that the treatment is washed out a little with each shampoo.

2. You style as normal.

3. T3 Croc Infrared

4. I use the same products I'd always used. I only changed my shampoo and conditioner. I don't recall what I was using at that time because that was a while ago. I never used many oils on my hair but I did use a cream moisturizer as needed.

So I after I wash my hair, can I roller set it or airdry it, & it won't be frizzy?

Hi! I have a few questions about the BKT, and I hope that you can answer them.
1) I workout often, what happens when my hair gets wet from sweating? Do I need to wash my hair more often because of the sweat?

2) I got my first treatment done professionally, but she set me under the dryer after applying the treatment before blow drying, was that necessary?

3)When I wash my hair, can I wrap it while it is wet or set it in rollers, and my hair won't be frizzy. Or do I flat iron each time I wash?

4) I read that some women had their hair fall out after using the treatment after doing for a few years. Have you heard of that happening? Do you think it could be because of them using too much heat?

Thank you and I appreciate your help.
Bridgett

Hi, Bridgett! Let's see what I can do...

1. You only need to be concerned about keeping your hair dry the first 4 days after the treatment. It's an absolute no-no. There are other brands out there that do not have a "curing" period, so you may want to check them out. I don't know the names off the top of my head. But, after that initial curing time and 1st wash, you can resume your normal hair regimen. Keep in mind the more you wash, the shorter the treatment will last.

2. I can only assume she did that to minimize manipulation from all of the blow drying. If your hair came out great, I wouldn't worry about it. But, if you have questions about the procedure, I recommend you ask the stylist during that time.

3. You can style as normal. You are not obligated to flat iron every wash. In fact, since your hair was ironed multiple times at such a high temperature, I advise you to style by other means than ironing.

4. There could be many reasons why people didn't get good results from the treatment. I can't speak on that, but the temperature can definitely be a factor. That's why I stated in the video to make sure your hair can handle it the heat and manipulation. I have the treatment professionally and me doing it myself and never had a problem.

Hope this helps!

Hi again.
I got my hair done professionally this past Friday, but I wasn't satisfied with the results. At first I thought my roots weren't supposed to straight, until I watched your & other videos, and I went to a beauty supply store and the lady said that she didn't do my roots. I really don't want to go back to her again, how long can I wait before I have it done again?

Thanks for your help.

Bridgett,

I think you should go back to that stylist and speak to her about your results and how and when they can be corrected. That is a lot of money to spend on a treatment to not be satisfied with it. I also can't advise you on what to do because I don't know what product she used or her methods.

I would hate for you to retreat your hair with such high heat and manipualtion to close together and cause breakage as we discussed before.

Talk to your stylist about your expectations and your actual results. Ask her what could have gone wrong and when would be a good time to correct it taking into account the high heat and manipulation needed for the treatment.

Hi I have a few questions about the after care of the BKT.

After the four days, can I put any oil in my hair or oil my scalp?
Can I use any hair spray?
And what's the difference between the brazilian keratin treatment and a brazilian blow out or is it the same thing?

--Monroe

After four days, you may wash your hair and continue with your normal styling routine.

From what I understand, they are the same. But, you should ask the stylist about which products they will use and what type of maintenance is required. Each brand is different.
