Yesterday, I got my Florida Evans swag on and got my fro trimmed up. The straight ends needed to go as they were hindering my styling results.

The Dets

I found this salon on Curly Nikki's forum when someone did a positive review on them. I called and spoke to Yolanda on Sunday. I made my appointment for Tuesday @ 5:30 after work. I called her Tuesday morning to confirm I would be there. She was very pleasant over the phone.

Before I talk about my service, let me tell you about the salon. It's raggedy as hell. Had I not made an appointment and then confirmed it, I would have driven away as soon as I saw the front door. I'm talking about ragedy. Not just outdated, but ragedy. I was not impressed. The exterior is an outdated strip and the interior is just crazy. It was clean, just old and ugh. Ok I think you get the point.

Anyway, I walked in and was promptly greeted by the owner, Jay. I arrived 10 minutes early. At 5:30 on the nose, Yolanda greeted me and confirmed what I wanted done. I told her I want the straight ends cut off and my hair shaped without losing too much length. Jay escorted me back to the shampoo bowl and gave me the best shampoo massage ever with Mizani. He DC'd with Keracare Humecto and combed it through my hair to distribute.

He educated me about natural hair and said my tangles are from the straight ends. He recommended conditioning, conditioning, conditioning, and making sure to comb to distribute it. He said it was ok to leave some in. All stuff I knew, but I was excited that he knew that too. I felt more comfortable. We conversed and I was enjoying my service.

I went to Yolanda's chair and she repeated what I wanted. She gave me a mirror and showed me how much she would need to trim to even me up. I agreed and she started snipping. She didn't straighten my hair at all. When she was done, I had a perfect lil fro. When I was pulling out of the parking lot, Jay was outside flagging me down. He thanked me for my business and invited me to come again. I definitely will.

My appointment started on time and I was done in and out in 45 minutes. The owner and stylist are SUPER friendly and professional. Althought the salon was aesthetically lacking, it is not indicative of the quality of service. I mean, this was THE BEST service I've ever received at a black salon. Don't act brand new, you know how we do sometimes *side eye*. I am thoroughly pleased with this salon.

A wash, dc, and trim was $20. I went home and twisted my hair with Bee Mine Deja's Hair Milk and Qhemet Biologics Amla & Heavy Cream.

I am happy to say that I found my stylist when I need one.

I think it's best to just get the shaping done as early as possible. Your hair is already short, so losing a little bit more and gaining a shape you can grow out with is a fair exchange. It's easier to let go now than to wait and don't want to do it later.
