I'm no stranger to the world of DIY haircare. I've been on the hair boards since July 2008. Many of my new e-friends know me as Your Cheeziness from various hairboards.
My Humble Beginnings
I started my humble, curious, and confused journey out on the original Healthy Textures (or HT 1.0 as I affectionately call it.) I found it by being fed up with my hair while I was deployed overseas. A coworker of mine bragged his wife (black woman) washed her hair twice a week and had great hair. I was appalled and commented her hair must be bad. He promptly corrected me and showed me a picture of a head full of thick gorgeous hair.
I thought if this 40+ year old woman can have a mop top, then so can I! I googled and stumbled upon Gennifer Miller's, (aka Macherieamour) blog called Healthy Textures. After reading, then stalking this blog for a week, I noticed there was a forum.
Wait. You mean to tell me women sit around and talk about hair on the innernets!? C'mon son! I thought that was wild. I signed up because it was free and wanted to see what other information that could possibly warrant a forum.
It was like stepping through the wardrobe into Narnia when I joined HT! What I loved most about it were the abundance of friendly, knowledgeable women. After going through several screennames in a short amount of time, I introduced myself as Your Cheeziness which I still use on many other forums to this day.
I dove in and began soaking up all the info I could stand while e-meeting wonderful ladies, most of whom are on the Hair2Toe Beauty forum now.
I went from this:

After Healthy Textures moved to a paid site, I followed loyally. I loved the site and it's owner - still do! I also joined up HairLuvBugs, Hairlista, K.I.S.S., and came out of lurking on Long Hair Care Forum. I was active on HT and HLB for a while before starting my own blog and forum.
Shift in Goals
As I decided to move forward with my blog into a bigger project more than just a hobby, I fell off the other forums majorly putting my energy into life obligations and Hair2Toe Beauty.
Honestly, after the dissolution of the original Healthy Textures, my forum experience was never the same. then especially after deciding to transition, I fell off of the blogs and forums with mostly relaxed women and found more blogs and forums geared for transitioners and naturals.
I joined Curly Nikki and Naturally Curly forums, mostly in lurkdom. I saw lots of familiar faces and names from the many forums I had been active on over the years.
During my transition, big chop, and now natural hair journey I had to essentially start over. I found oodles of support and knowledge that helped me go from a disappointing and premature big chop:

I am currently enjoying my relaxed hair as this better fits my preferences and lifestyle. I'm not hung up on length as I prefer to enjoy my hair everyday. I ultimately would like to gain decent length and have a head full of healthy hair.

My goals are to bring you as unbiased experience as possible. I always try to analyze the complete picture. I like to make informed decisions from well-rounded information.
You won't see me nit-pick over ingredients here. I'm an advocate for doing what works for you. I also advocate doing your own research and making your own decisions. I co-sign on affordable diy beauty and following your own path.
I hope to bring to you an honest, sometimes funny, sometimes tough-love blog on how to maintain your physical health and beauty. I've been through the relaxed, transitioning, natural, and now back to relaxed stages of hair and I have lots to share!
There are lots more things planned in the future and I hope you'll stick around with me on this journey!
:-) Enjoy!
